How we compare VPNs

Our method for checking prices, tax, jurisdiction, privacy evidence and subscription terms.

Prices belong to a market

US observations use USD and a selected US billing country. UK observations use GBP and a selected UK billing country. A provider's fallback currency or a converted Dutch price is not accepted as a local price.

We do not invent the final tax

A country-level observation does not confirm the tax for every state or address. We label these amounts and omit them from tax-inclusive price sorting and Google offers.

Subscription costs are full payments

We show the first payment, initial months, bonus months and renewal separately. A monthly equivalent is not a monthly billing promise. Unknown renewals stay unknown.

Facts have their own sources

Jurisdiction, device limits, protocols and privacy evidence are maintained separately from prices. Their source check dates are not changed when a price is refreshed.

Freshness and failures

Local source checks run every six hours. A failed attempt can retain the last valid observation until it is 72 hours old. Future-dated, expired and wrong-market records are rejected.

Commercial independence

Commission is not a ranking input. We include providers without affiliate programmes. A confirmed initial cost is not a complete recommendation or a test of VPN speed.

VPN price questions

Are these converted Dutch prices?

No. This version only accepts USD observations collected for United States. We never convert Dutch EUR prices into a local offer.

What if a local price cannot be verified?

The provider remains in the comparison, with a clear indication that its local checkout price has not yet been verified. Missing tax and renewal amounts are never filled in.

Does the monthly price mean monthly billing?

Usually not for a long subscription. A monthly equivalent divides the first invoice by every included month. The full invoice is normally paid upfront.

How is tax handled?

Sales tax can depend on your billing address. A country-level USD observation is not treated as a tax-inclusive final invoice. Check your state and ZIP code with the provider.

How fresh are the prices?

The scheduled price worker attempts a fresh observation every six hours. A failed attempt never refreshes an old observation date; prices disappear after 72 hours.

Does commission change the order?

No. Provider name is the default order. Price sorting uses only confirmed tax-inclusive first invoices; we do not publish a fabricated overall score.
